2025 Southwest Geotechnical Engineers Conference
The 48th Southwest Geotechnical Engineering Conference will take place May 19-21, 2025 in Sacramento, California. The organizing committee is seeking presentations on a variety of topics related to geotechnical engineering in transportation, including innovative solutions to challenges, new technologies, and case studies and lessons learned.
Specific topics of interest this year are listed below. Topics in bold are of particular interest, and we hope to develop workshops and/or extended sessions with multiple presentations on these topics.
- Geophysics
- Geotechnical Asset Management
- Geotechnical Data in BIM/Digital Delivery/Model as the Legal Document
- Geotechnical Risk Management
- Geohazards and Emergency Response (rockfall, wildfires, debris flow, slope failures, flooding)
- Groundwater and Dewatering
- Innovative Geomaterials
- Site Characterization and Construction Challenges for Deep Foundations
- Scour Analysis, Evaluation, and Mitigation
- Retaining Wall Maintenance and Repair
Presentations will be 20 to 30 minutes in length; no papers are required. Please submit abstracts to Mary Nodine at FHWA by emailing to: mary.nodine@dot.gov, and include “SWGEC Abstract” in the subject line. If your abstract fits one of the topics listed above, please indicate that topic in the email as well.
Abstract deadline: January 13, 2025
Notification of Acceptance: February 17, 2025
Powerpoint Presentations Due: April 28, 2025
